Permissions Used by Sierra

The tables below list each permission used by Sierra and the task or function that the permission is associated with. The system uses permissions to control which users are authorized to perform specific tasks. To assign permissions to users, see Administering User Permissions and Administering Global Permissions.

Each Permission Functions Independently

Each permission authorizes a user to perform only the specified task or function. It does not affect the functionality controlled by other permissions.

Using Permission 191

Users with this permission can only edit or create bibliographic records and order records with a STATUS of '1'. Note that permission 132 overrides this permission. Innovative strongly recommends that you do not give any other permission to a user with permission 191. This permission is intended for library staff who need very limited database update privileges only (for example, to create or edit selection lists). If a staff user with permission 191 requires other basic permissions, Innovative recommends creating a second login with those permissions for the user.

Optional Circulation Permissions

Note that by default, these permissions do not appear in the Admin App list of available permissions. To enable these optional permissions, contact Innovative.

Your library can limit specific Circulation functions available to users via the following optional permissions:

For example, if your library has contacted Innovative to enable the Optional Circulation Permissions feature for Creating the Homebound Patron Report, you must be assigned permission 1060 (Create Homebound Patron Report) to access the Create Homebound Patron Report function in the SDA. If the Optional Circulation Permissions feature is not enabled, all users are able to access the Create Homebound Patron Report function in the SDA and permission 1060 (Create Homebound Patron Report) does not appear in the Admin App list of available permissions.
