Renewing Items Without a Patron's Record

If your library has enabled the Optional Circulation Permissions feature for Renew (No Patron), you must be assigned permission 1057 (Renew (No Patron)) to access this function. See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

To enable the printing of date due slips, set the Due Slip Delivery options (Sierra 5.0 and later) or the Check-out: Print date due slips circulation option (Sierra 4.3 and earlier).

To renew an item without accessing a patron record:

  1. Select Renew (No Patron) from the Function list.
  2. Retrieve the item record you want to renew. Sierra attempts to renew the item that you select:
    • If the system encounters any conditions that block the renewal, it displays a warning message. For more information, see the possible messages for renewing items.
    • If the system can successfully renew the item, it:
      1. Calculates a new due date for the item.
      2. Updates the patron and item records accordingly.
      3. Prints a renewal receipt (also referred to as a date due slip), if enabled. When renewing an item in the Renew (No Patron) function, the system always prints a separate due slip for each item as it is renewed.
