Generating Date Due Slips
You can generate date due slips for checked-out or renewed items in the following places:
- Check Out tab in the Circulation Desk function
- Checked-Out Items tab in the Circulation Desk function
- Renew (No Patron) function
The functionality available when generating date due slips varies by release:
- Emailing and Printing Date Due Slips (Sierra 5.0 and Later)
- Printing Date Due Slips (Sierra 4.3 and Earlier)
Emailing and Printing Date Due Slips (Sierra 5.0 and Later)
Sierra 5.0 and later supports both printing and emailing date due slips. Using the Due Slip Delivery options, your library can define for each login which delivery methods are available and which method to use by default. When checking out or renewing items, you can change the delivery method using the Due Slip button. Sierra resets the delivery method to your login's default setting when you close the patron record.
For more information about each delivery method, see Emailing Date Due Slips and Printing Date Due Slips below.
Emailing Date Due Slips
The following points apply when emailing date due slips:
- To email date due slips, your login must have:
- Email delivery enabled in the Due Slip Delivery options.
- Print Templates enabled for due slips.
If these requirements are not met, the email option is suppressed. If your login's default delivery method is set to email, Sierra switches to the print method if enabled for your login. Otherwise, Sierra suppresses the ability to generate due slips.
An email printer does not need to be associated with your login to email date due slips.
- If your default delivery method is email but there is no email address in the patron record, Sierra does the following:
- Changes the default delivery method to print if enabled for your login. Otherwise, the ability to generate due slips is suppressed.
- Disables the email option when using the Due Slip button to change delivery methods.
You can add an email address to the patron record and then use the Due Slip button to change the delivery method back to email.
- Email date due slips are formatted using Print Templates.
- The Notices: E-mail notice information Circulation option controls the sender's email address, reply-to field, and subject headers. In Sierra 5.2 and later, email due slips use the value in the Library Name file as a display name for email and reply-to addresses. For example, "Innovative Library <circulation@library.org>".
Printing Date Due Slips
The following points apply when printing date due slips:
- The Renew (No Patron) function supports printed date due slips only. If your login is configured to support email delivery only, this function defaults to the No slip option, and the Due Slip button is disabled.
- Sierra prompts you to configure a receipt printer if you have not already done so. See Printing in Sierra for more information.
Printing Date Due Slips (Sierra 4.3 and Earlier)
Sierra 4.3 and earlier releases support the printing of date due slips. You can print date due slips for checked-out or renewed items by selecting the Print Slip check box. The value of the Check-out: Print date due slips Circulation option determines the initial setting of the Print Slip check box when you sign in, and it controls when the slips print. This circulation option can be assigned to users through an options group.
If you set this circulation option to a setting that selects the Print Slip check box by default, you can clear the box at any time if you do not want to print date due slips. If the Print Slip check box is selected, and you have not selected a default printer, the system prompts you to do so.
