Form: | Used for printing: | For more information see: |

Due slips | Due slips in standard Sierra Circulation and Express Lane | Setting Up Print Templates in Express Lane |

A "local printer" is attached to the Sierra workstation, either through a direct connection (e.g., a parallel or USB printer port) or over a local-area network. The system considers a login to have access to a Local Printer if the login has been assigned a local printer in the Printer Selection option in Login Administration. However, the system cannot actually verify that the login's workstation is able to access any local printers.
With the appropriate editing software (for example, Jaspersoft Studio), you can specify the data that appears on these forms. You can also control font selection and layout, and you can incorporate graphic images into these forms. Customized forms can be printed to a printer or exported to disk.
For more information about customizing templates for the forms listed above, see Creating Customized Print Templates and Print Templates Settings.
Using Print Templates
To use Print Templates for printing materials other than due slips, payment receipts, and circulation notices (for example, hold slips, serials claims, etc.):
- Select File | Select Printer | Print Templates.
- Select the form type (e.g., Purchase Orders, Monographic Labels, etc.) from the Select output type drop-down list.
- Select the output destination from the Select print method drop-down list and choose OK. There are two basic choices:
- Print the form.
- Export the form using one of the export options.
Printing the Form
If you select Print, the Print Service dialog box appears. To print the form:
- Select a local printer from the Name drop-down list.
- Select additional options as desired. The system enables the options in the Print Service dialog box (color appearance, sides, etc.) based on the capabilities of the printer (e.g., if the chosen printer does not print in color, the Color radio button in the Color Appearance pane is unavailable).
System Support for Printers
Support for printers and access to their capabilities is based on the workstation operating system's support for the particular printer(s) available to your workstation. Therefore, for each printer you want to access from your Sierra machine, you must install the printer driver specific to the printer's manufacturer.
- To print the form, choose Print. To cancel printing the form, choose Cancel.
Saving the Printer Selection
If you want the system to use the same printer settings each time your login uses Print Templates, you must check the Save this printer selection checkbox.
Exporting the Form
If you choose to export the form using one of the export options (e.g., PDF to export in Adobe Acrobat format), the system prompts you to Select file to print report.
- Navigate to the directory to which you want the form exported.
- Enter a name for the form in the File Name box.
