Printing Serials Labels and Routing Slips during Checkin

The ability to print serials labels during checkin depends on your login's settings on the Printing tab. Note that this option does not affect the printing of routing slips.

During serials checkin, you can print serials labels (spine and pocket labels) and routing slips. The format of serials labels and the information printed on them are determined by various system options (see Serials Options for more information). Routing slips can be customized through the use of Print Templates. See the Routing Slip Data Library for a list of elements that can be used when creating customized routing slip print templates.

Printing Serials Labels and Routing Slips

To print serials labels and routing slips, do the following.

  1. Follow the process for Checking in Serials.
  2. Select the Print labels and/or Print Routing Slip check box(es) at the top of the checkin card. Note that one or both of these boxes might not display depending on specific conditions. See Printing Check Boxes below for more information.
  3. If you have not already selected a Label printer, the system asks you to Choose a printer from the Select a Printer dialog.
    NOTE

If you use Print Templates for routing slips, you can select a different printer for the routing slips than the Label printer. If you have not selected a Label printer or a printer for routing slips, the system prompts you separately for each printer.

Note that spine and pocket labels print on the same printer. You cannot specify different printers for these types of labels. If you do not use Print Templates for printing routing slips, Sierra uses the same printer for spine labels, pocket labels, and routing slips.

Printing Check Boxes

The Print labels and Print Routing Slip check boxes at the top of a checkin card control whether the system prints serials labels and routing slips, respectively, as you check in issues. For example, if only the check box for printing serials labels is selected, Sierra prints serials labels only; no routing slips are printed during checkin.

Whether Sierra displays the Print labels and Print Routing Slip check boxes during serials checkin depends on certain conditions. For example, Sierra does not display the Print labels check box if the Allow label printing box for your login is not selected on the Printing tab. Likewise, the system does not display the Print Routing Slip check box if there is no routing list associated with the copy you are checking in.
