Administering Print Templates Settings
If your library has enabled the Print Templates feature, you can build a custom list of print templates for use with each output type. When you create a list of preferred print templates and configure Sierra's template-prompting functionality, your choices are associated with your login and are enabled wherever you access Sierra with the same login. See Printing with Print Templates for more information.
The Print Templates tab enables you to:
- Create a custom list of preferred templates.
- Preview and modify your preferred templates.
- Enable or limit template choices at the time of printing.
- Save your changes for future sessions or for the current session only.
Creating a Custom List of Preferred Print Templates
To create a list of preferred print templates:
- Select the form type (for example, Purchase Orders, Monographic Labels, and so on) from the Output Type list.
- Ensure that the Use Print Templates box is selected.
- Change your list of Preferred Templates for the selected output type by doing the following:
- To add to your list, select the template in the Other Templates list and click the left arrow.
- To remove items from your list, select the template in the Preferred Templates list and click the right arrow.
To select multiple templates to move at the same time, hold down the Ctrl key while you select each template.
Previewing and Modifying Templates
Circulation notices, due slips, and payment receipts use Print Template families. For more information, see Print Template Family Settings for Circulation Notices and Receipts.
You can preview templates, rename templates, and modify the preferred template list as follows:
- To rename a template, select the template from the Preferred Templates or Other Templates list and click Rename. For more information on naming templates, see Creating Customized Print Templates.
Default Templates Not Editable
The Print Templates feature is supplied with a set of default templates, which are identified by a leading underscore character in the template's name (e.g., _po in the list shown above). The system does not enable you to rename or modify default templates. For information on customizing templates, see Creating Customized Print Templates.
- To delete a template, select the template from the Preferred Templates or Other Templates list and click Delete.
- To view a template, select the template from the Preferred Templates or Other Templates list and click Preview. The template displays in a separate window.
- To import a template, click Import. For more information on importing templates, see Importing Print Templates.
- To export a template, select the template from the Preferred Templates or Other Templates list and click Export. For more information on exporting templates, see Exporting Print Templates.
Enabling Template Choices
You can set up the system to offer a choice of print templates when printing, or you can specify a template for automatic use. To enable or limit template choices, select an option from the Select Template drop-down:
- Prompt for template
- The system prompts you to choose a template the first time you print. The template you choose is then used for the rest of the Sierra session.
- Always prompt for template
- The system prompts you to choose a template every time you print.
- A specific template
- The system lists the templates you have added to the Preferred Templates list. If you choose a specific template from the Select Template drop-down, the system automatically uses this template when you print the form specified in the Output Type box.
If you have no entries in the Preferred Templates list, the Select Template drop-down lists all templates in the Other Templates list. However, if you use the Select Template drop-down list to enable templates in the Other Templates list, the system applies this selection during the current login session only; the system does not save this selection for future use.
Saving the Customized List of Preferred Print Templates
You can save your settings by doing one of the following:
- To save your settings for the current and subsequent sessions, click Save Settings and then click OK to exit the Settings dialog box.
- To save the settings for the current session only and exit the Settings dialog box, click OK.
