Printing to the E-mail to Patron Printer

You must assign the printer Send to email address to your login to use this feature. You do not have to assign permission 291 (Send email) to your login to use this feature.

Sierra offers the E-mail to Patron printer in the Select Printer dialog box. When you use this printer option, the system sends the information by email to the current patron. Sierra uses the email parameters specified for the email printer to determine the email's header information, including the email subject line. All Email to Patron printer jobs (including, for example, emailed patron holds and patron fine information) share these email parameters. To modify the email printer header information, contact Innovative. For more information, see System-generated Email.

For example, assume you have set the current printer to the E-mail to Patron printer and you retrieve a patron record that has an EMAIL ADDR field (field group tag z) of "jsmith@campus.edu." When you print something (such as the table of items checked out to the patron), the system sends the information to the patron's email address. Note that before sending this information, the system verifies the email address. For example:

Send email to jsmith@campus.edu?

Click Yes to email the printout to "jsmith@campus.edu.", or click No; Change Printer to print to a different printer. Sierra offers the Select Printer dialog box.

If the current patron record has no EMAIL ADDR field (or if there is no current patron record), the system prompts you for a temporary email address before printing. For example:

Current patron has no email address.
Temporary address:

Enter an email address and click OK. Note that the system does not modify the patron record when you enter a temporary email address. To print to a different printer, choose Change Printer and select a different printer.
