Automated Self Check-out Messages Table

To view circulation parameters, you must be assigned permission 373 (View Circulation Parameters). To edit the Automated Self Check-out Messages table, you must be assigned permission 387 (Edit Automated Self Check-Out Messages). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

If your library has acquired the SIP Circulation Interface, the Automated Self Check-out Messages Table enables you to customize some of the messages that display on the screen of your SelfCheck units. The system displays these messages when a transaction is blocked.

You can access the Automated Self Check-out Messages table via the following menu path:

Admin | Parameters | Circulation | Automated Self Check-out Messages

For information on modifying this table, see Maintaining System Parameter Tables and Maintaining Circulation Parameters.

Because the Automated Self Check-out Messages table contains a fixed number of entries, the Append, Copy, Delete, Insert, and Move tools are unavailable when editing this table.

For more information, see Functionality Information and Data Elements.

Functionality Information

When viewing and modifying the Automated Self Check-out Messages table, note the following:

Exactly Ten Entries
The Automated Self Check-out Messages table always contains exactly ten entries. You can edit existing entries, but you cannot create new entries or delete existing entries.
Some Messages Are Not Customizable
Messages alerting you to error conditions are hard-coded and therefore not modifiable. For a list of error condition messages, see Possible Messages (SIP2 Circulation Interface).

Data Elements

Entries in the Automated Self Check-out Messages table contain the following data elements:

Element Description
Event A description of the condition under which the message displays (for example, Patron is blocked). You cannot edit this element.
Message The text that displays on the screen when the system encounters the condition described in the Event element. See Possible Messages (SIP2 Circulation Interface) for a list of default messages. Note that in order to save a message, the Message element must contain characters. If a Message value contains only a space, the system displays the default message text.
