Checking In Items - Do Not Fulfill Holds

To choose the Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) option on the Tools menu, you must be assigned permission 331 (Do Not Fulfill Holds [Check In]). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

To check in an item without fulfilling any holds that are in the hold queue for that item:

  1. Choose Check-In (No Patron) from the Function list.
  2. Choose Tools | Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds).
  3. Select the check box next to the Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) option. The system displays the function name in the header.
  4. (optional) Backdate the checkin session.
  5. Retrieve the item record. Sierra checks in the item but does not fulfill any holds placed on the item.
    Checkin Considerations
    • Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) overrides the Priority Paging: Refuse Item Holds circulation option; if Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) is enabled, the system does not prompt you to refuse holds.
    • For each item you check in, Sierra displays the item barcode, the name of the patron who had the item checked out, the amount due, and the status of the item. To prevent the system from displaying the patron's name, contact Innovative.
    • If you attempt to check in an item that is already on the holdshelf, Sierra does not enable you to complete the checkin using Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds). To check this item in without fulfilling holds, first cancel the existing hold(s), then choose Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds), and check the item in again.
    • For more information about the messages and situations that might occur when you check in an item, see Checking In Items that have Special Conditions.
  6. Continue to check in items for which you do not want holds fulfilled.
  7. To disable Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds), do one of the following:
    • To retain display of the list of items previously checked in, choose Tools | Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) and remove the check mark from the Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) option. The system continues to display the table of items previously checked in, but items subsequently entered are eligible to fulfill holds, if any exist.
    • To clear the display and change to Check-In (No Patron), choose the Close button. Sierra removes the check mark from the Check In (Do Not Fulfill Holds) option and clears the table of items previously checked in.
