Maintaining Special Field Defaults

To edit special field default values, you must be assigned permission 669 (Edit Special Field Defaults). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

You can edit the default values for special fields that are added to MARC records.

Editing the File

  1. Choose Admin | Parameters | Cataloging | Special Field Defaults.
  2. Select the row containing the default content you want to edit.

When you edit the Default Content for a special field, the editor uses the Insert mode. If you enter data, be sure to delete the same number of spaces you enter, to maintain the proper byte position for your information.

  1. Choose OK.
  2. Choose Save to save your changes.

Data Elements

Each entry consists of the following elements:

MARC TYPE
The one-character identifier for the MARC type:
  • blank—MARC
  • u—UNIMARC
  • c—Chinese MARC
  • r—Korean MARC
You cannot edit this element.
RECORD TYPE
The one-character identifier for the record type:
  • a—authority
  • b—bibliographic
  • c—checkin/holdings
You cannot edit this element.
MARC TAG
The MARC tag for the special field, for example 006, 007, 100, or 154.
You cannot edit this element.
Default Content
The default field value you want to appear in the MARC tag for the specified record type when a new record is being created.
This element is editable.
