Variable-length Field Names Table
To edit the Variable-length Field Names table, you must be assigned permission 643 (Edit Variable-length Field Names). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.
The Variable-length Field Names table contains descriptive names of variable-length fields for record displays in Sierra and the WebPAC. If the record fields meet the criteria in the MARC Label Names file, then the MARC Label Names file entries are used instead of the Variable-length Field Names table for WebPAC display.
You can access the Variable-length Field Names table via the following menu path:

Because the Variable-length Field Names table contains exactly one entry for each variable-length field, the Append, Delete, Copy, Insert, and Move tools are unavailable when editing this table.
Entries in the Variable-length Field Names table contain the following data elements:

Name |
Name of the variable-length field to which the entry corresponds. At multi-lingual sites, the system repeats this element for each language enabled on your system. This element is protected from editing. |
Field Tag |
The field's tag. This element is protected from editing. |
MARC Default Tag |
The default MARC tag when entering new fields. This element is protected from editing. |
Where Located |
The record type(s) in which the field appears. This element is protected from editing. |
Long Name |
The long name for the field as it appears in Sierra and in the WebPAC. The name can be up to 80 characters long and must not contain vertical bars (|) or square brackets ([ or ]). At multi-lingual sites, the system repeats this element for each language enabled on your system. |
