Cancelling an INN-Reach Hold within the Holds Tab
This page describes cancelling a local circulation hold. For more information on cancelling INN-Reach holds within the Holds tab, see Cancelling an INN-Reach Hold at the Patron Site.
To cancel one or more of a patron's holds within the Holds tab:
- Retrieve the patron's record.
- View the Holds tab:
- select the Holds tab, or
- choose the Circulation Desk | Holds option from the Go menu
- Select the hold(s) you want to cancel.
- Choose the Cancel Holds button. For each selected hold, the system:
- Determines whether the item is currently on the holdshelf. An item currently on the holdshelf has a STATUS of '!'. If the item for which you are cancelling a hold has this status, the system performs the steps described in Cancelled Item Is on the Holdshelf. If not, the system continues to the next step.
- Determines the type of hold being cancelled and responds as follows:
- If the hold is a volume-level or title-level hold, the system continues to determining whether it should generate a hold cancellation notice.
- If the hold is an item-level hold, the system displays the following options:
- Cancel hold and change status to MISSING
- Cancel the hold and change the status of the item to 'm' (MISSING). The system does not offer this option if the item's STATUS is already 'm'.
- Cancel hold
- Cancel the hold without changing the status of the item.
- Do not cancel hold
- Continue without cancelling the hold.
- Respond to prompts related to generating hold cancellation notices (if any).
When Sierra finishes processing all the holds you selected, it displays a Results dialog box. For example, if you initially select three holds but choose to cancel only two, Sierra displays:
2 of 3 holds were cancelled.
The following hold was not cancelled:
Hold on <record> not cancelled at this time. - Choose OK to continue.
Stopping the Hold Cancellation Process
If you start the hold cancellation process but decide not to cancel one or more of the holds you selected, do the following:
- Answer the prompts, as described above, for the hold(s) you do want to cancel (if any).
After the system has cancelled a hold, it moves the highlight in the Holds tab from the hold just cancelled to the next hold to cancel. In addition, the system might display the Cancel Hold dialog box or a print prompt. - When the system highlights the hold you do not want to cancel, press <Esc> (even if a dialog box or prompt is displayed).
