Checking Out an INN-Reach Item to a Patron

You can check out an INN-Reach item to your patron using the Circulation Desk function or the SIP2 Circulation Interface. If you have enabled specific features for checking out items to your standard circulation patrons, these features are active for checking out an INN-Reach item to your patron. For example, the quick-alert functionality alerts you to expiration date problems and manual blocks as soon as you retrieve a patron record.

When you check out an INN-Reach item to your patron, the system removes the INN-Reach hold from the patron's hold queue and updates the virtual item STATUS to '-' (AVAILABLE). No change is made to the item status at the owning site, which remains '@' (OFF-SITE).

To check an INN-Reach item out to your patron:

  1. Retrieve the patron record.
  2. Scan or enter the item's barcode, or if Item Status API and the RFID Checkout and Checkin of INN-Reach Items feature are enabled, place the item on your RFID pad. The system:

Item has status RECEIVED and has been cleared.

  3. Click OK to clear this message.
How the System Calculates Due Dates for INN-Reach Items

The system calculates the due date for an INN-Reach item based on the INN-Reach patron circulation loan rule appropriate to the combination of the local patron type and the central item type from the virtual item record. The system calculates the due date by adding the Normal Loan Period element from this loan rule to the date that the item is checked out to the patron.

Note:

  • the due date is not affected and as a result, the date on which the item is due back to the patron site might be a day on which the patron site is closed.
  • This due date is earlier than the date on which the patron site must return the item to the owning site. The date on which the patron must return the item to the patron site must be enough in advance of the due date at the owning site to allow for transit time from the patron site to the owning site.
  • The due date that displays in the institutional holdings display in the INN-Reach Catalog is the date that the item is due back at the owning site, rather than at the patron site.
