Checking In an Item at the Owning Location for Hold Pickup Elsewhere
Automatically Printing Transit Slips
If you always want to print a transit slip for items that are set in transit, you can have your system configured to automatically print transit slips. To request automatic transit slip printing, contact Innovative.
When you check in an item that belongs to your location and is to be set in transit to a pickup location (i.e., the item has a hold at a non-owning location), the system displays information about the hold and prompts you to set the item's status to one of the following:
- IN TRANSIT to <pickup location>
- Sets the item in transit and prompts you to print a transit slip.
- ON HOLDSHELF
- Places the item on the holdshelf at the pickup location and responds as if you were checking in the item at its pickup location.
- Cancel
- Neither sets the item in transit nor places the item on the holdshelf.
Checking In Items when Options Are Streamlined
If you always place held items on the holdshelf, or if the pickup locations in your library system are not located within the same building and therefore you always put items in transit to their pickup location, your library can streamline the system to do one the following:
- Automatically set the item in transit
- Automatically set the item in transit and print a transit slip
- Automatically place the item on the holdshelf
Automatically Set the Item In Transit
If your library has configured the system to automatically set owned items in transit to their pickup location, and you check in an owned item that satisfies a hold at another pickup location, the system:
- automatically sets the item in transit
- prompts you to print the transit slip
Automatically Set the Item In Transit and Print a Transit Slip
Automatic Transit Slip Printing
To configure the system to automatically print the transit slip, streamline the options for setting an owned item in transit and then contact Innovative and request automatic transit slip printing.
If your library has fully streamlined the checkin of owned items that are to go in transit to their pickup location and you check in an owned item that satisfies a hold at another pickup location, the system:
- automatically sets the item in transit
- automatically prints the transit slip
The system does not display any of the prompts relevant to these tasks.
Automatically Place the Item on the Holdshelf
If your library has configured the system to automatically place on the holdshelf owned items that are to go in transit to their pickup location, and you check in an owned item that satisfies a hold at another pickup location, the system:
- automatically updates the item STATUS to '!' (ON HOLDSHELF)
- automatically removes any in-transit messages from the item record
- prompts you to print the hold slip
