Setting Up Express Lane

Before patrons can use the patron functions and features of Express Lane, you must complete the following setup steps.

  1. Install Sierra or Millennium on each workstation where you want to use Express Lane, as follows.

Sierra 5.1 and Later -- For these Sierra releases, follow the instructions for Installing the Sierra Desktop Application on CSDirect. To make it launch Express Lane, update the properties of the shortcut icon that the installation process places on the client. To do so:

  1. Right-click on the Sierra icon, and select Properties.
  2. Add "program=milmyselfcheck" to the target.
  3. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Sierra 5.0 and Earlier -- For these Sierra releases, use the latest installer for the Millennium Environment on CSDirect. To make it launch Express Lane, update the properties of the shortcut icon that the installation process places on the client. To do so:

  1. Right-click on the Millennium icon, and select Properties.

  2. Add the following options to the target: "port=64000" and "program=milmyselfcheck".

  3. If the shortcut target contains an IP address, change the address to a domain name. For example, numeric IP "111.22.333.444" becomes "catalog.library.org". You must use the hostname of the application server, and the hostname must match the one on the application server's SSL Certificate.

    For example:

       C:\Millennium\iiirunner.exe ip=111.22.333.444

    becomes:

       C:\Millennium\iiirunner.exe ip=catalog.library.org port=64000 program=milmyselfcheck
  4. When finished, click Apply, and then click OK.
  1. Set Express Lane station screens to a resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater.
  2. Create Express Lane logins. Note that your library's Express Lane logins must be created and deleted by Innovative. Once created, you can edit your Express Lane logins in the Sierra Administration Application.

You can define one Express Lane login for each license your library has acquired. Note that Express Lane logins are set up as independent user groups that do not count against the TOTAL group.

To create logins for Express Lane, contact Innovative and provide the following parameters for each login:

  1. If you do not want to provide a keyboard, mouse, and barcode scanner at your Express Lane stations, set up the input devices that staff and patrons will use.
  2. If you want to provide due slips for items checked out at Express Lane stations, configure due slips for each Express Lane login. If you want to use print templates for due slips, you must also set up print templates.
  3. If you want to change the appearance of your self-checkout stations, customize the look and feel of Express Lane.
