Starting and Exiting Express Lane

You must start an Express Lane session daily on each workstation where patrons will use Express Lane. Before turning off the workstation, you must exit Express Lane.

Starting Express Lane

You must launch Express Lane using the desktop shortcut you installed when setting up the application. For more information about launching Sierra applications from a desktop shortcut, see Logging Into the Sierra Desktop.

If the workstation is not configured to retain printer settings, Express Lane prompts you to choose a printer.

After you start Express Lane, you can proceed to start a patron session.

Exiting Express Lane

The steps you take to exit Express Lane depend on whether Express Lane displays a title bar. The title bar displays the product name, Express Lane, and also contains an Exit button. If Express Lane screens display the title bar, staff can end Express Lane by choosing the Exit button and entering the login and password authorized to shut down the program. If you do not want the title bar to display on the Express Lane screen (the default), you must implement the exit sequence as your library's shutdown method.

To display or suppress the title bar in Express Lane, contact Innovative. Note that the title bar may be required for Macintosh computers.

Exiting Express Lane Using the Authorized Login and Password

To exit Express Lane from the title bar, you must be assigned permission 170 (Log out of Express Lane). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

To exit Express Lane using an authorized login and password:

  1. Choose the Exit button in the title bar. The Enter Login and Password to Exit dialog box appears.
  2. Enter the login and password of a login that has been assigned permission 170 (Logout of Express Lane).
  3. Choose OK. If you do not want to exit, choose Cancel. If you choose OK, a confirmation dialog box displays.
  4. Choose Yes to exit or No to keep Express Lane running. If you choose Yes, Express Lane exits; you can now shut down the computer.

Exiting Express Lane Using an Exit Sequence

To use your library's exit sequence to exit Express Lane:

  1. Ensure that the Express Lane station is displaying an empty scan box. If the Express Lane station is displaying patron information, end the previous patron's Express Lane session to clear the display.
  2. Enter your library's exit sequence into the empty scan box and choose Enter on the attached keyboard or keypad. The Scan Again confirmation dialog box displays.

The default exit sequence is 1234567890. To customize your library's exit sequence, contact Innovative. Note that the exit sequence must differ from your library's printer sequence and settings sequence.

  1. To exit, re-enter your library's exit sequence and choose Enter again. Express Lane exits; you can now shut down the computer. To continue using Express Lane, choose Cancel.
