Checking Out an Item whose Status Is Not '-'

Standard circulating items have a STATUS value of '-' (AVAILABLE). When you check out an item with a STATUS value other than '-', the system prompts you to take special action. The actions required differ depending on the item's status:

'm' (MISSING)

The system prompts you:

Item status is MISSING. Clear it?

Choose Yes to change the item's STATUS to '-' (AVAILABLE). Choose No to continue without changing the item's status.

The system then checks the item out to the current patron.

'n' (BILLED)

'o' (LIB USE ONLY)

't' (IN TRANSIT)

The system takes the following actions:

  1. Displays the transit message:

Wed Jun 15 12:48PM: IN TRANSIT from north to mnfic

Choose OK to acknowledge the message and proceed with the checkout.

  1. Changes the item's STATUS to '-' (AVAILABLE) and displays a confirmation message:

Item status is IN TRANSIT and has been cleared.

Choose OK again to continue checking out the item.

  1. Removes the transit message from the item.
  2. Checks the item out to the current patron.

'z' (CLMS RETD)

The system takes the following actions:

  1. Prompts you to clear the item's status:

Item status is CLMS RETD. Clear it?

Choose Yes to change the item's STATUS back to '-' (AVAILABLE). Choose No to continue without changing the item's status.

  1. Prompts you to confirm the checkout:

Check out item anyway?

Choose Yes to check the item out to the current patron. Choose No to cancel the checkout.

  1. Prompts you to check the item in from the previous patron, if the item is still checked out (that is, you selected Leave item checked out ... change status to CLAIMS RTRND when claiming the item returned). For more information, see Checking Out a Checked-out Item.
  2. Removes the claims returned notes from the patron and item records, if the Remove claims returned notes for checked-in items option is enabled. For more information about this option, see Administering Setup Options.

Other Item Status Values

The system prompts you to clear the item's status. For example:

Item status is IN PROCESSING. Clear it?

Choose Yes to change the item's STATUS to '-' (AVAILABLE). Choose No to continue without changing the item's status.

The system then prompts you to confirm the checkout:

Check out item anyway?

Choose Yes to check the item out to the current patron, or No to cancel the checkout.
