Setting Up the ASRS Interface Product

Innovative Setup

Before Innovative can set up the ASRS Interface product, you must specify the following information.

Staff Requesting ASRS Items

Library staff can request items from the WebPAC or by using the Sierra Desktop Application. Most of the parameters you specify to limit how patrons can request ASRS items do not apply to requests made by your staff. For more information, see Requesting ASRS Items (Sierra) and Requesting ASRS Items (WebPAC).

Library Setup

After Innovative sets up the product, perform the following steps.

  1. Create at least one Locations Served entry for the ASRS locations you specified. Do not assign any non-ASRS location codes to the entry you create.
  2. Create at least one Locations Served entry for the ASRS pickup locations you specified. Do not assign any non-ASRS pickup location codes to the entry you create.
  3. Configure the ASRS Request Form and ASRS Confirmation Message Form.
  4. Configure the BUT_ASRSICON Web option.
  5. If you are using Version 2 of the product, add the one-character STATUS code to the Fixed-length Codes file (Sierra 3.4 and earlier) or the Item Status Codes table (Sierra 4.0 and later).
Holds and Bookings

Innovative does not recommend that you allow holds to be placed on ASRS items. However, the system can support holds on ASRS items (e.g., if you check in a held ASRS item, the system can use the item to fulfill the hold). Do not allow bookings to be placed on ASRS items.

For information on blocking holds and bookings for ASRS items, see Loan Rules Table and Loan Rule Determiner Table.
