Requesting ASRS Items
At libraries that have acquired the ASRS Interface product, patrons and staff can request ASRS items by using the WebPAC. ASRS items are items that belong to ASRS locations, which are part of the ASRS machine.
Differences in Patron and Staff ASRS Requests
Your library can choose to restrict patrons from requesting items from certain ASRS locations (see Setting Up the ASRS Interface Product). However, library staff can request items from any ASRS location. The WebPAC considers patron records whose P TYPE numbers are defined in the STAFF Web option to belong to library staff.
When you retrieve an ASRS item whose STATUS is '-' (AVAILABLE), the WebPAC includes an ASRS Request link in the item record display.
Your library can configure the WebPAC to display a graphic for this link by setting the BUT_ASRSICON Web option.
To request an ASRS item:
- Choose the ASRS Request button or link. The WebPAC prompts you to enter your patron information. Depending on your library's configuration, the WebPAC may also prompt you to select an ASRS pickup location.
Your library can customize these prompts by editing the ASRS Request Form. - Enter your information and choose the Submit button. The WebPAC sends the request to the ASRS machine.
ASRS Pickup Locations and Patron Verification
Innovative can configure the WebPAC to require patrons to pick up requested ASRS items at specific ASRS pickup locations. Innovative can also configure the WebPAC to require patron verification. For more information, see Setting Up the ASRS Interface Product.
Depending on the ASRS machine's response, the WebPAC displays a confirmation message or an error message. For example:
Your ASRS request has been placed and should be available for pickup shortly.
Your library can customize these messages by editing the ASRS Confirmation Message Form.
