Using the ASRS Interface With an Automated Storage and Retrieval System
The ASRS Interface product provides an interface to Dematic's (formerly HK Systems) Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). Libraries that have acquired this product can use Sierra to perform the following tasks.
- add or remove items from the ASRS machine
- request ASRS items
- view ASRS message logs
- edit items that are stored in the ASRS inventory
In addition, these libraries can allow patrons to request ASRS items in WebPAC.
Acquiring the ASRS Interface

Versions of the ASRS Protocol
HK Systems can implement different protocols for its ASRS machines. Before your library purchases an ASRS machine, contact Customer Sales to verify which protocols are compatible with your Innovative software.
Versions of the ASRS Interface
There are two versions of the ASRS Interface product. Both versions share the same basic functionality. However, Version 2 has these additional features:
- ASRS item records' STATUS fields are automatically updated to 't' (IN TRANSIT) when the items are sent from or to their ASRS bin locations.
- A new item record STATUS fixed-length field code is used to represent requested ASRS items that have arrived at the designated pickup location and are ready for patron pickup.
