Requesting ASRS Items (Sierra)

To use the Search/Holds function, you must be assigned permission 101 (View bibliographic records).

ASRS Pickup Locations and Requesting Limits

You can use Sierra to request any available ASRS item and choose any ASRS pickup location. In contrast, you can configure the WebPAC to limit ASRS requests to items at specified locations and require a specific pickup location.

If your library has acquired the ASRS Interface, you can perform the following steps to request an ASRS item.

  1. Choose one of the following options from the Function list:
    • Binding
    • Catalog
    • Check In Bound
    • Claim/Cancel Orders
    • Claiming
    • Orders
    • Receive
    • Search/Holds
    • Serials Checkin
    • To Bindery
  2. Retrieve the item record.
  3. Choose the Summary tab.
  4. To limit the display to those items that belong to your location, choose the Current Location option under the All drop-down list.
Scoping Feature

If your library uses scoping, Sierra includes the Current Scope option under the All drop-down list. You can select the Current Scope option to limit the display to those items that belong to the scope assigned to your login. If your library uses scoping but the system does not display the Current Scope option, contact the Help Desk.

  1. In the View drop-down list, choose Holds.
Holds/Bookings Option

If your library uses Materials Booking, the Holds option in the View drop-down list will appear as Holds/Bookings. In the Holds/Bookings view, the system displays the items attached to the bibliographic record and indicates the number of holds and bookings on each item in the Hold Count and Booking Count columns. If your library uses Materials Booking and the Holds/Bookings option still appears as Holds, contact the Help Desk to enable this view.

  1. Select the item you want to request.
  2. Choose the Request from ASRS button. (This button is activated only for ASRS items whose STATUS is '-' (AVAILABLE).)
  3. Retrieve the patron record.
  4. Select an ASRS pickup location from the drop-down list and choose OK.
  5. The system sends the request to the ASRS machine. If the ASRS machine accepts the request, the item's DUE DATE displays as "REQUESTED".

When the patron arrives to pick up the item, use the Circulation Desk function to check the item out to the patron.
