Editing Items in the ASRS Inventory
The use of an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) is primarily intended for nonactive collections that require few editing updates. However, it may still be necessary for your library to edit these nonactive records.
While any change to the item records of ASRS-stored items is possible within the Sierra system, these changes do not automatically carry over to the item records in the ASRS inventory. Editing of an item barcode within the Sierra system of an item that is currently in storage with ASRS may result in the loss of an item within the ASRS system. In order to edit a record that is currently in the ASRS inventory, it is necessary to remove the item temporarily from its ASRS bin as well as remove the item record from the ASRS inventory.
To edit a record so that the editing changes may subsequently be stored in both systems, do the following:
- Request the item from ASRS storage.
- Receive the item from the ASRS machine at the specified location.
- Check the item out to a staff patron.
- Close the staff patron record.
- Remove the virtual item from the ASRS database.
- Edit the item record as desired.
- Check the item in from the staff patron.
- Add the item back into the ASRS inventory, and send the item to its ASRS bin location.
