Possible Messages and Alerts when Retrieving Patron Records

When you attempt to retrieve a patron record, one of the following can occur:

Possible Messages When a Record Cannot Be Retrieved

The following messages can display if the system cannot retrieve a patron record:

Message Action
Cannot search for record type <record type> You entered an Innovative record number, but did not use a p (for patron record type). Enter the record number again, preceded by a p.
Invalid number keyed. There is no patron record associated with the number that you entered. Check the accuracy of the record number and re-enter it, if needed.
This is not a valid index. You performed a search in a non-existent index; that is, the first character of your search is not a valid index tag. Re-enter your search criteria with a valid index tag at the beginning of your search. For more information, see Selecting an Index by Entering an Index Tag.
You have not scanned in a borrower barcode yet. No patron record is currently loaded and you scanned an item barcode or performed a search in an index that does not contain patron records. Retrieve a patron record before retrieving an item record.
Patron not registered at this location. Your library has the Patron Partitioning feature enabled, and you tried to retrieve a patron record for which your login has restricted access. You must use a login for which access is not restricted to access the patron record.

On-the-fly Patron Records

If you attempt to retrieve a patron by barcode but the system does not find a matching barcode, the system can create an on-the-fly patron record.

Possible Messages, Warnings, and Alerts When a Record Has Been Retrieved

The following messages can display after the system has retrieved a patron record:

Message Action
3 held item(s) ready for pickup There are items waiting on the holdshelf for the patron (STATUS = '!'). Click on the Holds tab to identify the items that are ready for pickup, then check out the held items to the patron.
3 Interlibrary Loan item(s) ready for pickup. There are items waiting on the ILL holdshelf for the patron. Click on the ILL tab to identify the items that are ready for pickup, then check out the ILL items to the patron.

If your library has enabled quick-alert functionality, the system alerts you to expiration date problems and manual blocks present in the patron record.
