Viewing Defunct Holds
To view defunct holds:
- Select Clear Holdshelf from the Function list.
- Specify the type of defunct holds you want to view. To do so, select one of the following in the Holds pane:
- Expired holds and holdshelf
- Displays all defunct holds
- Expired holds
- Displays only holds for which the Not Wanted After date on the hold has passed.
- Holdshelf
- Displays only items on the holdshelf that are cancelled or unclaimed (that is, the hold has lapsed according to the Time To Pickup element of the Loan Rule).
- Specify the pickup location(s) of the defunct holds you want to view. To do so, select one of the following in the Location pane:
- <Your library's pickup location>
- Clears defunct holds at pickup locations that are part of your library's Locations Served. This option displays if your login has an associated Locations Served value.
- All locations
- Displays defunct holds at all locations.
- Select location
- Displays holds for a specific location. By default, the location associated with your login in the Locations Served table displays is automatically selected when you select this option. To select a different location than the one associated with your login, choose a location from the Select Location drop-down list.
Limit Access to Clear Holds Feature
The Limit Access to Clear Holds feature enables staff to select only the following options:
- the Expired holds and holdshelf option (staff cannot select only expired holds or only the holdshelf)
- the location associated with their current login (staff cannot select all locations or specify another location)
To have the Limit Access to Clear Holds feature enabled, contact Innovative.
- Click View. Sierra displays the Clearable Holds Summary Report. When viewing this report, you can:
- View additional details about any of the holds.
- Print the Clearable Holds Detail Report by choosing the Print icon.
- Clear the defunct holds.
- Close the report. If you close the report without clearing the holds, the defunct holds remain intact and are not cancelled or moved to the next patron in the hold queue.
