Automatically Clearing In-transit Status

To enable Automated Clearing of In-transit Status at your library, contact Innovative. You must specify the number of hours that you want to elapse between the time you set an item in transit and the time the system clears its in-transit status.

To use Automated Clearing of In-transit Status, you must set the circulation option Check-in: Check-in at wrong location to "ALLOWED" or "ASK" so that you can check in items when setting them in transit.

The Automated Clearing of In-transit Status feature simplifies checking in library-owned items. It enables you to specify the approximate amount of time required to transport an item from a non-owning checkin location to its owning location. The system automatically clears the in-transit status after this amount of time passes. Staff do not need to check the item in again when it arrives at the owning location.

Compatibility with Other Products and Features

Automated Clearing of In-transit Status is incompatible with the following products and features:

The system takes the following special actions when Automated Clearing of In-transit Status is enabled.

  1. Upon checkin of an item at a non-owning location, the system determines whether the item is eligible to have its in-transit status cleared automatically. To be eligible, an item must meet the following conditions:
    • The item was checked in before it was placed in transit; that is, either you chose the option Set STATUS to in transit; do not check-in, or your system is configured to do so automatically. For more information, see Checking In an Item at a Non-owning Location.
    • The item is being returned to its owning location.
    • The item is not an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) or INN-Reach item.
    • The item is not on hold.
If the item meets these conditions, it is eligible to have its in-transit status cleared automatically. If the item does not meet these conditions, you must check the item in when it reaches its owning location to clear the item's in-transit status.
  2. Once per hour, the system clears the status of eligible in-transit items. The system updates only those items that have been in transit longer than the amount of time your library specified when setting up the feature. To clear an item's in-transit status, the system updates the item as follows:
    • Changes the item's STATUS to '-' (AVAILABLE).
    • Removes the transit message from the item record.
Contact Innovative to change how long the system waits before clearing an item's in-transit status, or how frequently the system clears eligible items.
    Owning Library is Closed

If the Days Closed and Hours Open tables indicate that the library is closed when an item's status is to be cleared, the system waits until the library is open, then clears the item's status.
