Creating Programs for Which Registration is Moderated

To create a program for which registration is moderated, you must be assigned the following permissions:

  • 754 (Update program records)
  • 764 (Update section records)
  • 771 (Modify session)

See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

You can create programs for which registration is possible by library staff from a Program Registration function, but not by patrons from the WebPAC or program calendar. These moderated programs are useful when the library has specific requirements for registration (beyond those automatically controlled by the eligibility tables in Sierra). For example, the library might require a patron to have completed another program or course before enrolling in a specific program. By marking the program as "moderated", library staff can ensure that each patron meets the registration requirement before they enroll.

Moderated programs display in the WebPAC and program calendar like regular programs. Instead of a registration button, however, the system displays the message: Please Contact the Library to Register. Additionally, patrons can cancel a registration for a moderated program from the WebPAC.

To create a program for which registration is moderated:

  1. Choose Program Management from the Function list.
  2. Create a new program record.
  3. Add a value of "MODERATED" in the REGPOSSIBL fixed-length field.
  4. Enter additional record information as needed.

See Variable-length Fields in Program Records and Fixed-length Fields in Program Records for further information on the individual fields in program records.

  1. Save your program record information or Close the program record without saving.
  2. Create sections and sessions as necessary.
