Renewing Items at Express Lane Stations

To enable patrons to renew items at Express Lane stations, set the Renewals: Allowed in Check-out circulation option to "YES" and the Patron can renew own items OPAC option to "YES, if not overdue" or "YES, even if overdue". You can also set the Renewals: New due date is computed and Check-out: Limit due date to expiration date circulation options to function at Express Lane stations as desired. Note that the setting of the Renewals: Prompt for renewal? circulation option does not affect Express Lane stations.

If your library has enabled patrons to renew items at Express Lane stations, patrons can renew items (including INN-Reach items) during Express Lane sessions.

Automatic Items Renewals Feature Prompts Patrons to Renew

If automatic item renewals are enabled, patrons are prompted to renew their items when they first sign into Express Lane. Responding No to the automatic renewal prompt does not prevent patrons from renewing items from the Checked Out Items screen.

To renew items at an Express Lane station, patrons:

  1. Navigate to the Checked Out Items screen. If item renewal is enabled for Express Lane, the Checked Out Items screen displays checkboxes by each listed item as well as several buttons related to renewing items.

  2. Select items for renewal by checking the box next to each item to be renewed. To renew all items, patrons choose the Select All button. To uncheck all the checkboxes, patrons choose the Clear All button.
  3. Choose the Renew Items button. Express Lane attempts to renew the item(s) and displays one of the following:
If the patron: Express Lane displays:
Renews some or all items and the system is able to renew all selected items "All items have been renewed." or "All selected items have been renewed."
New due dates show in the Due Date column of the Checked Out Items screen.
Renews some or all items and the system is not able to renew all the selected items "# items could not be renewed. Please see a staff member for assistance."
New due dates show in the Due Date column of the Checked Out Items screen for those items the system was able to renew. Checkmarks remain by the items that were selected for renewal but could not be renewed by the system.
  1. Choose the Back to Previous button to return to the Welcome Patron screen.
Renewing Overdue Items That Have Accrued Fines

If your library has set the Patron can renew own items OPAC option to "YES", even if overdue and a patron renews overdue items that have accumulated fines, the system updates the amount displayed in the following areas:

Patrons are not able to use Express Lane to renew billed items.
