Renewing an INN-Reach Item from the Patron Site
You can renew your patron's INN-Reach items using either of the following methods:
- From the patron's record.
- Without the patron's record. If you renew an INN-Reach item by this method, Sierra displays the following additional prompt:
Barcode '0000000000' was found as '0000000000site1'
Continue using record for '0000000000site1'?
In response to this prompt:- Choose Yes to continue. The system prompts you to confirm renewal of the item:
Renew item checked out to patron, item barcode 0000000000?
- Choose Yes to continue.

How Renewing Your Patron's INN-Reach Item Works
When you renew a INN-Reach item that is checked out to your patron, the system:
- Determines the current status of the virtual item:
- If the virtual item status is AVAILABLE (-), the system continues to the next step.
- If the virtual item status is RECEIVED (#) or RETURNED (%), the system displays the following message:
This item, <item record number>, is not checked out.
Choose OK to clear this message. You must view the current state of the virtual item to determine how to proceed.
- Determines the new date on which the patron must return the item to the patron site, based the INN-Reach patron circulation loan rule under which the item was originally checked out. The system calculates the due date by adding the First Renewal Period element from this loan rule to the current date. Note that the system does not consult the patron site's Days Closed table when calculating this new due date; as a result, the new due date might be a date on which the patron site library is closed.
- Updates the due date in the virtual item record with the new due date.
- Temporarily displays the item's status as RENEWED. Note that the virtual item's recorded status remains AVAILABLE (-).
- Sends a circulation message to the owning site, which causes the system to add the new due date to the item record.
