Protecting Circulation Parameters From Editing

To protect or unprotect an entry in a circulation parameter table, you must be assigned permission 311 (Circulation Parameters Administrator). To edit a protected entry, your Locations Served and permission levels must match the level of protection applied to that entry. For more information, see Circulation Parameter Authorization Types below and Permissions Used by Sierra.

In multi-branch library systems where each branch maintains its own circulation parameters, you can prevent staff from editing table entries other than the ones for their branch. To do so, you can request that Innovative enable Edit Protection of Circulation Parameters. Edit protection applies to the following circulation parameter tables:

When this feature is enabled, an Editable By field displays in the circulation parameter tables listed above. Staff authorized as circulation parameter administrators can specify the permissions and Locations Served required to edit entries in these tables.

To apply edit protection to a parameter table:

  1. Assign permission 311 (Circulation Parameters Administrator) to the staff you want to allow to administer circulation parameters. Users with this permission can assign edit protection and edit all entries in protected tables.
  2. Access the table whose entries you want to protect.
  3. Add or edit the entry you want to protect.
  4. Assign one of the following permissions to the entry's Editable By field:
Authorization Type      Editing Authorized
ADMIN Only staff assigned permission 311 (Circulation Parameters Administrator) can edit this entry. In addition, only 311-permitted staff can edit the value of the Editable By field.
ALL All staff can edit entries in this table (except in the Editable By field).
A specific Location Served Only staff at the specified locations served can edit the entry. The system compares the locations served associated with the user's login to the locations served value in the Editable By field. If the locations served match, the user can edit the entry. If the locations served do not match, the user can view the entry, but not edit it.
  1. If you choose an Editable By value that does not match the Location field specified for that entry, the system displays a Warning dialog reminding you that this entry might be used by additional Locations Served. If you want to restrict the entry and require other Locations Served to create their own entry, choose OK. If you want to revisit the Editable By restrictions you have placed on this entry, choose Cancel.
  2. Repeat these steps for each entry you want to protect.
  3. Close the table.
