Specifying Request Messages

Your library cannot specify text for patron request denial messages. For more information on the default messages that display during patron request denial, see Patron Request Denial Messages.

Your organization can specify the text of certain messages and prompts that display to patrons during the WebPAC request process.

You can specify messages that display to patrons under the following conditions:

Condition: Description: To specify message text:
Blocked request The request is blocked due to the item's fixed-length field value. (Requires that your organization limits requests by item type, location, or fixed-length field.) Contact Innovative.
Blocked request The request is blocked due to the patron's P TYPE or PCODE. Set the OPAC option Requests: Message for patrons denied access.
Placing request The system prompts the patron for patron verification information. Set the OPAC option Patron self-identification prompts & examples.
Placing request The system prompts the patron for special request instructions. Set the REQUEST_INSTRUCTION Web option.
Charge for request The system warns patrons that they will be charged for their request. Set the OPAC option Requests: Message to agree to charge.
Ready for pickup In the WebPAC patron display, the system warns the patron that a held item is ready for pickup by a certain date. Set the SEEPUDATE Web option.

Prompting the Patron for Special Request Instructions

Your organization can specify whether or not patrons can enter special instructions in the request. If special instructions are allowed, the patron can enter up to three lines of instructions.

For organizations with manual patron request processing, special instructions display when your staff read requests. When a request is processed into a hold (either automatically or by library staff), the system displays the special instruction as a hold note. These notes display when holds are viewed and are printed on paging slips.
