How Sierra Updates Records Upon Checkout
When you check out an item, the system makes the following changes to the patron and item records:
Updates to the Patron Record
- Increments the TOT CHKOUT and CUR CHKOUT fields.
- Updates the CUR ITEM<x> fields, if the item falls into one of your library's item categories.
- Sets the CIRCACTIVE field to the current date.
Updates to the Item Record
- Writes the item's due date to the DUE DATE field. For information about how the system determines the item's due date, see How Sierra Calculates the Due Date for a Checkout and Overriding the Calculated Due Date.
- Writes the system-calculated loan rule to the LOANRULE field.
- Increments the TOT CHKOUT and YTDCIRC fields.
- Sets the OUT DATE field to the current date.
- Sets the OUT LOC field to the statistics group number of the login used to check out the item.
