Setting Up Reading History

To set up Reading History:

  1. Verify that your system has adequate disk space to store patron reading history. The system can retain approximately 35,000 entries per 1MB of storage.
  2. Edit your Circulation system options, Web options, and Web forms, as needed.
Testing Reading History

Innovative recommends that you enable this feature only for certain patron types when testing your Reading History configuration.

Circulation System Options

To enable Reading History, you must set the Retain patron reading history Circulation option. By default, the system does not collect patron circulation history.

After setting the Retain patron reading history option, define the following system options, as needed:

After configuring or changing any of the above options, you must restart the WebPAC and restart Sierra for those changes to take effect.

Homebound Patrons Cannot Opt Out

If your library has purchased the Homebound Patron Services product, the system always collects reading history for patrons whose P TYPE your library has defined as homebound, regardless of your library's Reading History configuration. Homebound patrons cannot opt out of Reading History.

Web Options

  1. In the Web Options function, select the My Account group.
  2. Modify the following options, as needed.
  3. Select the Search Results group and modify the BROWSE50, ICON_PAGING_PREV and ICON_PAGING_NEXT Web options, as needed.
  4. Review your changes in your staging WebPAC. When the preview reflects the changes you want, use the Web Options function to move them to your live directory.
  5. Save your changes and restart the WebPAC and restart the Sierra desktop.

Customizable Web Forms

  1. Using the Web Master function, edit the patronview_web.html file in your staging directory to add the following tokens.

  2. Review your changes in your staging WebPAC. When the preview reflects the changes you want, use the Web Master function to put the files in your live directory.
  3. Save your changes and restart the WebPAC.
