Generating Title- and Volume-Level Pages
If your library has enabled the Title Priority Paging feature, you can generate title-level pages. In addition, if your library has acquired the Volume Level Holds product, the Title Priority Paging feature enables you to send volume-level pages.
You can generate title- or volume-level pages as follows:
- Place either a title-level or a volume-level hold.
- Enter information for either the title-level or volume-level hold, as appropriate.
The system determines whether a hold can be paged. A hold can be paged if it meets the following conditions:
- The hold on the title (or volume) is not limited to a specific location.
- An item is available and belongs to a location that is assigned a Paging Priority value in the Hold Pickup Locations table.
After evaluating the criteria above, Sierra does one of the following:
- Hold cannot be paged - Sierra automatically places the hold and exits the dialog box.
- Hold can be paged (Sierra 5.3 and later) - Sierra automatically places the hold and pages the hold.
- Hold can be paged (Sierra 5.2 and earlier) - Sierra prompts you with paging options. Go to the next step.
- If prompted, select one of the following options:
- Page for title - Places the hold and pages the hold.
- Do NOT page - Places the hold without paging.
- Cancel - Exits the dialog box without placing the hold.
Paging a Title-Level Hold
Sierra does the following when paging for a title-level hold:
- Adds the hold to the Title Paging List. If a hold has a Not Wanted Before date in the future, the hold is queued for paging but is not displayed in the Title Paging List until the Not Wanted Before date has passed.
- Pages locations with items that can fulfill the hold. If your library has set paging priorities, Sierra pages locations in the order indicated. If paging priorities are not set, Sierra pages locations in random order.
Sierra only attempts to page locations where the requested title is currently available. But because every location in the Hold Pickup Locations table that owns the title is included in the Title Paging List, Sierra can page for titles as items become available.
Available Items
Sierra considers an item "available" if all the conditions below are true.
- The item has a STATUS of '-' (AVAILABLE).
- The item is not checked out.
- The item does not have a currently fillable item-level hold (that is, a hold for which the Not Wanted Before date is absent or in the past and the Not Wanted After date is absent or in the future).
- The item can be held by the patron according to the Holdable loan rule element.
