Storing URL Fields in the INN-Reachh Catalog

The INN-Reach Central Catalog can store URL fields contributed from the following local sources:

Storing URL Fields Contributed from Local Bibliographic Records

Typically, libraries contribute URL data from MARC 856-tagged fields in local bibliographic records. If your INN-Reach System has acquired the "INN-Reach URLs for Locally Held Resources" product, your library can also contribute URL data in an "alternate" field that displays in the institutional holdings display.

Storing MARC 856 Fields

Innovative can configure the INN-Reach Catalog to store incoming MARC 856 fields in the central bibliographic record, the institution record, or both.

If the INN-Reach Catalog stores a MARC 856 field in the central bibliographic record, the URL displays as a hyperlink in the bibliographic record display in WebPAC. For more information, see Viewing the Full Record Display.

If the INN-Reach Catalog stores a MARC 856 field in the institution record, the URL displays as a hyperlink in a separate row in the Detailed Holdings section of the institutional holdings display in WebPAC. For more information, see Viewing Institutional Holdings Information.

Storing Selected MARC 856 Fields

If your INN-Reach System has had the "Storing Selected MARC 856 Fields in Central Records" feature enabled, INN-Reach can prevent the central storage of MARC 856 fields that are intended for Local Server use only. If an incoming MARC 856 field contains a specific phrase (for example, "authorized" or "https://"), the INN-Reach Catalog does not retain that field in the central bibliographic record. Central System Administrators must contact Innovative to enable this feature or add phrases that cause the system to discard an 856 field.

Storing Alternate URL Fields

INN-Reach Systems that have acquired the "INN-Reach URLs for Locally Held Resources" product can also specify an "alternate" URL field that Local Servers can contribute to the INN-Reach Catalog. This alternate URL is stored in the institution record and displays as a hyperlink in the Detailed Holdings section of the institutional holdings display. The hyperlink displays in the same row as the holdings data related to it, associating the URL with the particular site that contributed it. This alternate URL field can be any MARC-tagged field and displays in the institutional holdings display only. For more information, see URL Link Display.

Storing URL Fields Contributed from Local Item, Order, or Checkin Records

Your library can contribute URL data that is stored locally in MARC 856-tagged fields in item, checkin, or order records. The INN-Reach Catalog stores this incoming URL data in the Item, Checkin, and Order fields in the related institution record.

Your Central System Administrator can configure the institutional holdings display to include these URLS as hyperlinks in the institutional holdings display in WebPAC. For more information, see URL Link Display.
