Creating Institutional Patron Records
When setting up ILL, you must create an institutional patron record for each library from which you want to borrow ILL items. ILL uses institutional patron records when you:
- choose a supplier while acquiring a request
- send a notification to a supplier
To create an institutional patron record, follow the same procedure you use to create a patron record and make sure to do the following:
- Enter the name of the institution in the PATRN NAME field and the library's address in the ADDRESS field.
If you want the system to group institutional patron records together in browse displays, assign each institution a patron name that starts with the same term, such as ILL.
- Assign the institutional patron record a special P TYPE value to identify it as an institutional patron record.
- If you want to acquire ILL requests via email from the institution, enter an email address in the EMAIL ADDR field.
- If your library acquires requests from OCLC, and you want to be able to search for institutional patron records by OCLC institution symbol, enter the OCLC institution symbol in an indexed field, such as the UNIQUE ID field.
