Working with Search Results
When you search one of your database indexes:
- If there is a single entry that matches your search criteria, the system opens the matching record. If you want to return to a browse display of similar records, choose the Browse button.
- If there are multiple entries that match your search criteria, the system offers a browse display of the matching records. You can then retrieve the records from the browse display.
- If your search does not match any index entries, Sierra offers a "no-hit" browse display, which consists of nearby entries in the index.
Retrieving a Record from a Browse Display
A vertical scroll bar allows you to view the entire list of matching records. The status bar at the bottom of the screen lists the number of index headings and entries retrieved. You can jump to an entry in a browse display by entering a number.
To retrieve a record from a browse display either:
- Click on the corresponding entry in the browse display.
- Highlight the entry and either choose the Select button or press Enter.
To highlight an entry:
- Enter the entry number.
- Select the entry with the mouse.
- Use the up and down arrows to navigate to the entry.
Note
If your login is associated with an entry in the Locations Served table and titles in the browse screen are associated with multiple LOCATIONS in the bibliographic record, the records matching your location will display at the top of the list. Additional records will follow in the order in which they appear in the LOCATIONS field.
Choose Esc to clear the browse display.
Retrieving a Record from a Compact Browse Display
To retrieve a record from a compact browse display, expand the appropriate group entries by clicking the +. The behavior is otherwise-identical to a browse display.
