Adding a Patron to an Item-level Hold Queue

While viewing an item-level hold queue, you can place a hold for a patron by adding the patron to the queue:

1. Choose the Add a patron button. Sierra opens a new search window.
2. Retrieve the patron record.

   MAX HOLDS

   If the patron that you select has exceeded the number specified in the MAX HOLDS field for their P TYPE (in the Patron Blocks table), the system prompts you to override the MAX HOLDS block. If you successfully override this block, the system prompts you to retrieve the desired item. If you do not override the MAX HOLDS block, the system returns you to the previous screen.

   To override the MAX HOLDS block, you must be assigned permission 92 (Override hold blocks). For more information, see Permissions Used by Sierra.

3. Continue as follows:
   • If the item is not available or does not belong to a library in your Locations Served list, enter the information for the hold.
   • If the item is currently available and belongs to a library in your Locations Served list, you can either place the hold or change the item's status to "missing" and then place the hold. Choose the appropriate option and then enter item information for the hold.
