Placing a Hold on an Item that Is Not Checked Out
You can place a hold on an item that is not currently checked out to another patron. Note that it is possible to place a hold on an item with any status.
When you place a hold on an item that is not checked out, the system offers the options below:
- Page for item
- To place the hold and page the item, select this option. The system does the following:
- Places the item-level hold. Sierra prompts you to enter information for the item-level hold.
- Sends an item paging slip to the print queue at the item's owning location.
- If an item-level hold exists for another patron, the system does not prompt you to print a paging slip.
- Is not checked out.
- Does not already have other item-level holds.
- Do NOT page
- To place a hold on the item without paging the item, select this option. Sierra prompts you to enter information for the item-level hold.
- Place hold and change status to MISSING
- You are placing a single item-level hold.
- The item belongs to your location (that is, the item's location is on your Locations Served list).
- To place the hold and add the item record to the On Search file, select this option. The system does the following:
- Changes the item's STATUS field to "m".
- Puts the item record in the On Search file.
- Places the item-level hold.
- Sierra does not display this option if the item's STATUS is already "m".
- Cancel
- To exit the dialog box without placing the hold, select this option.
Pageable Items
The system considers an item-level hold pageable if the associated item:
It is possible to generate a paging slip for an item with any status.
This option is only available when the following conditions are met:
This option does not appear when placing multiple item-level holds at the same time (even if all of the items belong to your location).
