Checking Out Items to Homebound Patrons

If your library uses Homebound Patron Services, you can print rating sheets to accompany checked-out items sent to patrons whose P TYPE your library has defined as homebound. To check out an item to a homebound patron:

  1. Perform the usual steps for checking out an item.
  2. If the Check Reading History During Homebound Checkout feature is enabled and the patron has previously checked out the item or another item attached to the same bibliographic record, the system warns you about the previous checkout. For example:

'Flower & garden photography / Derek Fell.' appears in this patron's reading history. Proceed with checkout?

Choose Yes to continue checking out the item or No to cancel the checkout.

To enable the Check Reading History During Homebound Checkout feature, contact Innovative.

  1. Close the homebound patron's record (for example, by choosing the Close icon or by retrieving another patron's record). The system prompts you to print a rating sheet.
    • Choose Yes if you want to print a rating sheet. The rating sheet prints to the receipt printer.
    • Choose No if you do not want to print a rating sheet.
  2. (Optional) Include the printed rating sheet with the checked out item.
Reading History Always Collected for Homebound Patrons

When you check out an item to a homebound patron, the system records the checkout to the patron's reading history. Reading history is collected for homebound patrons regardless of whether your library has enabled reading history for other patrons. If you later enable reading history, homebound patrons are able to view their reading history when they access their library records.
