Check-in of billed item. Reduce bill to:

To reduce a bill, you must be assigned permission 93 (Waive fines). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

This option defines how the system charges a patron after the patron returns an item that has been billed but not yet paid.

When the patron returns a billed, unpaid item, the system no longer charges the patron for the cost of the item (ITEM CHARGE) or the cost of the library acquiring a new copy of the item (PROCESSING FEE). Instead, the system compares the BILLING FEE to the overdue fine. (For information on how the system calculates the overdue fine, see Charging Overdue Fines).

The possible values of this option are:

Value Action
1 > BILL FEE The BILLING FEE; that is, value of the REPLACE BILL SERVICE CHARGE Loan Rule element.
2 > LESSER: FINE, BILL FEE The lesser of the BILLING FEE or the overdue fine.
3 > LARGER: FINE, BILL FEE The greater of the BILLING FEE or the overdue fine.
4 > CANCEL BILL No charge; Circulation waives the fine. Note that you may need to be authorized to waive the fine.
