Using My Record Feeds
You can use the My Record Feeds product to offer patrons an RSS feed of patron-specific information, for example, indicating that materials are ready for pickup or are due soon. WebPAC Pro displays the information feed using a complex and unique identifier to ensure only the patron will view the relevant feed.
To use My Record Feeds, a patron must log into My Account and then click the the My Record Feeds link defined by the ICON_PATFEED WebPAC option. Patrons can then subscribe to a My Record feed in any of the following ways:
- Using the Live Bookmark feature of a browser or other RSS feed reader.
- Manually adding a Live Bookmark to their browser or other RSS feed reader.
- Coping the URL from the link in their record and using it to subscribe using the patron's RSS feed reader.
The system does not create personalized feeds until the patron requests the feeds by subscribing to a record feed. Once the system receives a request for the latest feed from a feed reader, the system generates a feed.
RSS Feed Readers
Innovative does not recommend any specific RSS feed readers nor can Innovative staff assist with using RSS feed readers to subscribe to informational feeds.
Patron record information is protected in the URL of the patron feed using a complex and unique identifier for each patron's feed. Patron feeds do not contain information such as patron name. The feeds contain contextual links to the patron record and require the patron to verify against the record in order to follow the links.
