Adding a Patron to a Volume-level Hold Queue

To use the Search/Holds function, you must be assigned permission 101 (View bibliographic records). To view or add a patron to a hold queue, you must be assigned permission 45 (Holds management). For more information, see Permissions Used By Sierra.

While viewing a volume-level hold queue, you can place a hold for a patron by adding the patron to the queue:

  1. Choose the Add Patron button. Sierra opens a new search window.
  2. Retrieve the patron record.

To override the MAX HOLDS block, you must be assigned permission 92 (Override hold blocks). For more information, see Permissions Used By Sierra.

  3. If the patron that you select has exceeded the number specified in the MAX HOLDS field for their P TYPE, Sierra prompts you to override the MAX HOLDS block. If you successfully override this block, Sierra prompts you to enter information for the hold. If you do not override the MAX HOLDS block, Sierra returns you to the summary of attached records. For more information on the MAX HOLDS field, see the Patron Blocks table.

After the patron record is retrieved, Sierra displays the Place a Volume-level Hold dialog box.

  4. Enter information for the volume hold in the Place a Volume-level Hold dialog box.
