How Sierra Fulfills Holds

When you check out a held item, Sierra checks for and attempts to fulfill holds for the current patron. The system fulfills a hold if:

When a checkout fulfills a hold, the system updates the patron and item records as follows:

  1. Removes the hold from the patron's Holds tab.
  2. Removes the patron from the item, title, or volume record's hold queue.
  3. Changes the item's STATUS from '!' (ON HOLDSHELF) to '-' (AVAILABLE), if the item is on the holdshelf for the patron.
