Automatically Checking Out an Item Upon Checkin

If you check in an item that satisfies a hold and automatic checkout is enabled, the system determines whether the next patron in the holdqueue has a P TYPE that has been designated for automatic checkout. If this is not the case, the checkin proceeds normally. If the next patron has been designated for automatic checkout, the system determines whether you are checking in the item at its owning location. For more information, see:

Compatibility with Held Item Delivery Product

Automatic checkout is not compatible with Held Item Delivery. To use Held Item Delivery, Innovative must disable automatic checkout.

Checkin Location Is Owning Location

The system automatically checks out the item to the patron and displays the following message:

Item is on hold for <patron name> and will be checked out automatically. Print slip to place in book?

After you answer whether you want to print a slip, the item's due date displays:

Item has been checked out. Due <due date>.

Immediate Rental Charge

If your library assesses immediate rental charges and the item is a rental item, the system adds the rental charge to the patron record at the time of checkout.

Checkin Location Is Not Owning Location

The system displays the checkin and transit options for returning the item to its home location. Choose Set STATUS to in transit; do not check-in or Set status to in TRANSIT; check-in to return the item to its owning library.
