Z39.50 - Bath Profile Setup

In 1999, the Bath Profile was created to "improve interoperability among diverse systems and improve search and retrieval results within specific Functional Areas" of the Z39.50 protocol. The Bath Profile specifies three conformance levels: 0, 1, and 2 and three functional areas: Bibliographic Search & Retrieval, Bibliographic Holdings Retrieval, and Cross-Domain Search and Retrieval.

Sierra Z39.50 clients and servers support Level 0 of the Bath Profile in all three functional areas.

Bath Level 0 Compliance Requirements

To comply with Level 0 of the Bath Profile, you must enable the ISO Latin-1 character set and enforce attribute checking.

Advanced Word Searching is required to operate your Z39.50 server in compliance with Level 0 of the Bath Profile. All Sierra systems have Advanced Word Searching.

Z39.50 Server Setup

To operate your Z39.50 server in compliance with Level 0 of the Bath Profile, your library must perform the steps in the Z > Z39.50 Server procedure.

Z39.50 Client Setup

To operate your Z39.50 clients in compliance with Level 0 of the Bath Profile, your library must configure your clients to use the appropriate keyword search attributes.
