Importing MARC Records

Leap provides MARC and MARCXML record importing functionality that is comparable to the Express Import feature in the Polaris staff client.

Note:

When you import records using Leap, the system:

• Performs the same processing and validation that occurs when you import records in the staff client. For more information, see Automatic Processes During Record Imports.
• Uses the same permissions that control record importing in the staff client. For more information, search for "Cataloging Permissions" in the staff client help.

Note:
Importing a large number of records may cause slow performance for other processes. We recommend that you perform large imports when the library is closed and when it will not interfere with scheduled system backups.

The process for importing MARC and MARCXML records includes the following tasks:

1. Select an import profile and choose records to import.

   Note:
   Custom import profiles are configured in the Polaris staff client. For more information, search for “Setting Up Import Profiles” in the staff client help.

2. Review and configure import options.

3. Review and configure record set import options.

4. Perform the record import.

5. View and manage pending, in progress, and completed record imports.
