Variable-length Fields in Holdings/Checkin Records

The following table describes the variable-length fields found in holdings/checkin records. Both the short label and default long label (if one exists) are shown.

Call number. The item's call number. The call number in the holdings/checkin or item record is used preferentially in most system functions such as printing or displaying. CAPTIONS | Captions. If your system is set up for MARC holdings/checkin records, the CAPTIONS field defines captions/patterns for up to six levels of enumeration and three levels of chronology. The CAPTIONS field must be a MARC 853 (basic bibliographic material), 854 (supplementary material), or 855 (indexes) field with field group tag y. Summary (bound) holdings statement. This field can be edited manually or it can be automatically updated as bound volumes are checked in as they return from the bindery.
MARC fields 863-868 should be associated with field group tag 'h' so that holdings information stored in these fields is displayed in the LIB HAS statement. See also the LIB HAS field in the bibliographic record. |

LOCATIONS | Appears if fixed-length field LOCATION is MULTI. VEN ADDR
or Vendor Address |
This field, if it exists, always prints on the serial claim as the vendor's address. It is required if the code in the VENDOR field is "NONE". However, it also overrides the ADDRESS1 variable-length field in the vendor record when the code in the VENDOR field is something other than "NONE". (ADDRESS1 in the vendor record is the address associated with the VENDOR code when you create a vendor record.) Use VEN ADDR when either:
