Automated Self Check-out Media Types Table

To edit the Automated Self Check-out Media Types table, you must be assigned permission 387 (Edit Automated Self Check-Out Files). If you are assigned permission 373 (View Circulation Parameters) but not 387, you can view this file but cannot edit it. See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

If your library has acquired the SIP2 Circulation Interface and enabled the SIP2 Media Types Identification feature, you can set up the Automated Self Check-out Media Types table to map 3M media type values to values in bibliographic and item records. During circulation transactions, the system transmits these media type values to your library's SelfCheck units, which can be configured to take special action based on an item's media type.

You can access the Automated Self Check-out Media Types table via the following menu path:

Admin | Parameters | Circulation | Automated Self Check-out Media Types

For information on modifying this table, see Mapping SIP2 Media Types.

The Automated Self Check-out Media Types table contains the following data elements:

Element Description
Field Association A drop-down list of fixed-length fields to which media types can be mapped. This list includes the BIB LVL, MAT TYPE, and BCODE3 in bibliographic records and the I TYPE fixed-length field in item records.
Media Map A table that associates record values with 3M media type values.

The Field Value column contains values for the fixed-length field specified in the Field Association element.

The Media Value column contains a drop-down list of possible 3M media types, which are:
0 Other
1 Book
2 Magazine
3 Bound Journal
4 Audio Tape
5 Video Tape
6 CD/CDROM
7 Diskette
8 Book with Diskette
9 Book with CD
10 Book with Audio Tape
For example, if the Field Association element is set to I TYPE, a value of '0' in the Field Value column and a value of "1 Book" in the Media Value column means that the system maps items with an I TYPE value of '1' to the Book media type.

For more information about the 3M media type field, consult your SelfCheck unit manufacturer.
