Mapping SIP2 Media Types

If your library has acquired the SIP2 Circulation Interface, the SIP2 Media Types Identification feature enables you to map 3M media types to values of your choice in order to store the appropriate media type in each title or item record. 3M media types are used in the 3M media type field in 3M devices, such as SelfCheck units, to ensure that the SelfCheck unit responds appropriately to each item. To have the SIP2 Media Types Identification feature enabled, contact Innovative.

When the SIP2 Media Types Identification feature is enabled, assign field values to 3M media types as follows:

  1. In the Automated Self Check-out Media Types table, use the Field Association drop-down list to choose the fixed-length field in which you want to store field values that are mapped to media types.
  2. Add a new entry to the Media Map table by choosing Add Row or select an existing entry to edit.
  3. Choose the cell in the Media Value column to activate the Media Value drop-down list. The Media Value list contains all media types used on 3M devices.
  4. Choose a media type. If you do not choose a media type, the system assigns 0 Other to the entry.
Not All Media Types Need to Be Mapped

You do not have to map each 3M media type to a field value. If the system encounters an item for which a media type is not specified in the title or item record, the system functions as if the item has a media type of 0 Other.

  1. Enter a value in the cell of the Field Value column.
  2. To save your changes, choose OK. To close the SIP2 Media Types Edit dialog box without saving any changes, choose Cancel. To print the Edit table, choose Print.
  3. Associate title or item records with media types. To do so, follow these steps for each title or item you want to associate with a media type:
    1. Depending on whether the fixed-length field specified in the Field Association element is in the bibliographic or item record, retrieve the appropriate type of record for the title or item.
    2. Enter into the fixed-length field specified in the Field Association element the field value that corresponds to the title or item's media type. If the title or item does not match one of the 3M-specified media types, use the field value corresponding to the 0 Other media type.
    3. Save your changes.
