Adding Identifiers to Existing Checkin Records
To insert identifiers into existing checkin records:
- Create a review file of checkin records that require a particular identifier.
For example, you can create a review file of the checkin records for all Lexis e-journal subscriptions.
The Create Lists function offers a convenient method of creating review files.
- Update the records in the review file by inserting a LIB HAS field that contains the identifier.
Identifiers are limited to 12 characters. Only alphanumeric characters are allowed. For a variable-length field, the identifier must be both:
- the first word in the field
- followed by a space
For a MARC 866|a field, the identifier must be the first data in the subfield.
To continue the example above, the identifier "Lexis" would be inserted either in a new
- h-tagged variable-length field
- MARC 866 field, subfield a
of each checkin record in the review file.
The Rapid Update function offers a convenient method of updating records.
